Joy Hemmes
Communications Assistant
Joy joined the staff of Calvary in 2021. Born to a Bahamian mother and a Canadian father and raised in the Bahamas, she lived in many cities and several countries before meeting and marrying Nate and settling happily into life in West Michigan as a wife and mother of two boys - William and Sawyer.
Joy studied at Wheaton College, spending her junior year abroad in Spain before graduating with a major in Spanish and a minor in French. She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Boston University and a graduate diploma in Christian Studies from Regent College in Vancouver, B.C.
She has always been passionate about ministry and missions and spent time on short-term mission trips to Mexico, Spain, and the Dominican Republic and lived and worked for two years at a Christian residential recovery program in New Hampshire.
Joy takes comfort in the psalmist’s words in Psalm 139: “…in your book were written all the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.”
